10 Home Projects You Can Do During Quarantine and Stay-At-Home Order

If you're among the many people who fall under the stay-at-home order and find yourself with a lot more time on your hands, you may want to finally get around to some of the home improvements you've always wanted to get done.

Most of the typical "Quarantine" activities have probably been on repeat by now and you're ready to switch it up and get productive. Here are 10 ideas to inspire your home projects while at home.

1. Deep Clean the House

In the normal hustle and bustle of life, deep cleaning always seems to get away from us. When we're living in our own mess it's easy to miss the build-up of dirt and dust over time. Try looking through your house with "fresh eyes" and look at everything from an outsider's perspective. Usually, the biggest buildups are dirty baseboards, dusty surfaces, handprints on walls and doors, dirty windows, and drips/spots on cabinets.

2. Rearrange Your Shelves

Shelves can easily become a drop zone for the things you can't find a better place for. Bring some beauty back to your open shelving and bookcases by decluttering the items you don't want on display, and arrange the shelves in a way you like.

3. Hang a Gallery Wall

If you have frames or prints laying around that you've wanted to hang but haven't had the time to, now is the best time to lay them out and get a gallery wall started! Even if you don't have frames already, you can order ones online (think, Amazon!) so you can stay safe and not leave your house. Gallery walls are a great way to show off your personal style and mix in prints, photos of loved ones, wall hanging trinkets, etc.

4. Paint a Room or Add an Accent Wall

Accent walls are an easy way to spruce up a room and make it feel completely different. If you're feeling bold you can even paint an entire room, after all we have nothing but time right now! You can find some of the most trendy colors for 2020 online and not leave your house on these sites:

Anthropologie

Behr

5. Clean Your Small Appliances

Your mixers, blenders, instant pots, etc. can all get full of gunk over time and we aren't always on top of keeping them clean. Take an hour and give all your small appliances a wipe-down to restore their shine and make them feel brand new again.

6. Declutter

This is an obvious one. I think everyone has at least one closet or drawer that is an absolute mess to look at. Having clutter around bothers my subconscious mind so much and can add a little extra stress that no one needs. Take the time to really organize and deep clean your messy zones to clear your mind and feel better about your home.

7. Fix Your Wobbly Furniture

It takes barely any time to flip a chair or table over to tighten those screws that have come loose over the years. Grab your screwdriver and get to it!

8. Update Hardware

Hardware can make a huge difference in your kitchen or on furniture. You can swap out old and outdated pieces with something updated to make an impact without shelling out too much cash. G.W. Smith Lumber Company is a dealer for Top Knobs, Hardware Resources, and Richelieu that we can have shipped directly to your door. Email McKenna with a link to the hardware you're interested in to get a quote at mhutchinson@gwsmithlbr.com

Top Knobs - $$$

Richelieu - $$

Hardware Resources - $

If you're replacing your current hardware, make sure that the new hardware will fit in the holes that have already been drilled in your cabinet doors.

9. Rearrange Your Furniture

Moving around your furniture can make you feel like you updated the entire room, without breaking the bank. If you're looking for a little more of an update, you can replace a rug, add some new accent pillows, and swap out some artwork and you'll have a whole new space in no time. Sites like Wayfair and Amazon have tons of options to match your style and ship quickly.

10. Take Inventory of Your Pantry

Your pantry can become a dark hole where things go to disappear forever. Go through those back corner shelves and get rid of anything expired or stale. Organize everything you have by category and take note of what you already have duplicates of or are out of so you know what is important when you make your next run to the store.

Give a few of these ideas a try and remember to stay home and stay safe!
